Use of AI in game development has in just the past few months gone from widespread condemnation to ubiquitous adoption. I’m not going to comment on whether that’s a good or bad thing, it’s just the reality of the industry right now.
Almost all development teams now use AI. Many composers and sound artists do. So far I feel most professional game arts are trying to avoid it, or using it to supplement rather than replace their work.
3D modelling has been a big gap in LLM capability. But GPT 6 Astra is now available and in the past few weeks people have used it to create very flashy demos. So after a 17 hour work day, too tired to do anything, brain too active to sleep, I threw a single simple prompt into ChatGPT.
Nothing happened. It just sat there for half an hour. A full 40 minutes after entering the prompt it offered me a html file to download. It’s 800KB.

It’s not great. It’s not even that good. But it is amazing. It’s a game with a flight model, multiple aircraft to fly, buildings, places to land, things to collect, buy and sell (including freight, new aircraft, weapons), premises you can rent and tracked game objectives.
Could it be turned into a game? I’ve bought worse on Steam.
Would Berenott Digital publish it? No. Is it a useful proof of concept for a game we may look to develop in the future? Absolutely. It helps with ideation, filtering, assessing features, testing systems and models, exploring aesthetic choices.
Here. Have a play for yourself! That’s the raw output from a single prompt, no refinement, no tweaks. AI is getting scary.
